NanuNanu @Whelans, DUblin

@Whelan’s, Friday 26th July 2013

Nanu-Nanu reviewsNanu Nanu teleported onto stage in support to Keith Moss and the Tightrope Walkers and Common Wolf at the jam packed upstairs venue of Whelan’s last Friday night.

Nanu Nanu, creators of their own genre “alien-pop”, consists of Mirrorman (Marc Aubele) and Glitterface (Laura Sheeran). Together they have been making waves on the live electro circuit infecting audiences with their industrialised punk and space-age synthesizer sounds. Glitterface laser blasted us with songs from the albums Unit 1 and Pocket of Gold, coupled with covers of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” and notably “Relax” by Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

Attracting thrash dancers from the back of the room during “Patron”, there was plenty of crowd appreciation. Sheeran’s synthetically-altered vocal gives a raw, deep edge – a highly contagious sound. “Mandy” definitely drove the crowd wild, while Glitterface leaped about and danced with the crowd, she has serious energy. Ending on “Feast” it was a pity they were time controlled, we all wanted more.

We loved their energy, style and sound – very inspiring live.
